Morales vs. Maidana

Last minute blog post: I have to quickly address the Junior Welterweight fight happening this evening.  On HBO we have an interesting match up between Marcos Maidana and Erik Morales.  Not sure how exciting this fight will be (Berto-Ortiz should be much better), but it's an important fight.  Maidana is considered one of the best 142-pounders out there right now; he is the only person to (really) beat Victor Ortiz and he gave other highly regarded Junior Welterweight Amir Khan serious trouble in their epic December brawl.  Maidana winning tonight's bout would be a terrific way to bounce back from his December loss, and would be a compelling argument for a future bout against Timothy Bradley or Devon Alexander.

Erik Morales is establishing his 2nd career now after a 2 and a half-year retirement.  He is best known as one of the three people to ever beat boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.  A Morales win tonight would change everything.  He'd be right back on the boxing map, and Maidana would probably lose his place among the top Junior Welterweights.

Robert Guerrero and Michael Katsidis are fighting on the undercard.  Katsidis has become one of my favorites since his more than spirited effort against Juan Manuel Marquez.  No matter what this fight will be entertaining.

JD's prediction: For the Undercard: Katsisdis will beat Guerrero by TKO in 10 rounds.  For the Main Event: Maidana is the heavy favorite.  Under normal circumstances I would almost surely say that Maidana has this fight in the bag...but I had a dream the other night in which Morales won the fight by unanimous decision.  It could have just been a weird dream with no credibility whatsoever, but I'm going with it.  I have Morales winning a unanimous decision.
